ONE DAY PROJECTS FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL ART CLASS

Challenge:
Students alter a standard playing card to create an original, unusual artwork.

Materials: playing cards, scissors, utility knives, collage resources, glue, drawing/painting media

Process:
• Provide playing card at random.
• Students cut, alter, collage, re-glue, draw.

Lesson Expansion:
• Teacher demonstrates cutting “windows” to collage behind, and cutting vs. ripping effects.
• Final product may be glued and integrated into a sketchbook page.
• Create a full class deck for display.
• Tile cards on a wall, or bind, and hang in a row from the ceiling.
