ONE DAY PROJECTS FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL ART CLASS

Shoot then Draw

Challenge:


Students take have 45 seconds to run out in the hall and take 3 photos or find a random photo on their phones. Then print and transfer to drawing paper. Use the photo as a drawing starter.


Materials: smartphone/digital camera, desktop laser printer (inkjet printers do not work, any type of drawing paper, acetone from hardware store, cotton balls or swabs, drawing materials.

Process:
• Students quickly take photo or find one on their phones.
• Print photos on desktop laser printer.
• Transfer printed images to drawing paper.
• Create drawings using the image as a starter. Encourage students not to color in but to continue lines and shapes to create their own drawings.


Lesson Expansion:
• Show students the transfer images of Robert Rauschenberg and make it a current events lesson.
• Add text.
• Consider a variety of drawing surfaces such as cardboard or already-printed materials such as pamphlets or brochures.
