with students at Walter Payton College Prep, Chicago
Challenge:

Materials: digital camera for each group of 4/5 students, handout with prompts for photos

Process:
• Students assemble in groups of 4/5.
• They take photos based on the following prompts:
--Make the tallest person in the group look small.
-- Make the shortest person in the group look tall.
-- Photograph something close-up and then again far away so that each photo looks like it is a different object/place.
-- Can you trick us? Take a photo that plays with our sense of space so that we are confused about point-of-view, proportion, and scale.
Lesson Expansion:
• Look at photos in magazines and online to see how advertisers manipulate point-of-view, proportion, and scale to emphasize the attributes of a product.
